Pay Per Click Sponsored links are usually not followed by the search bots, but there are instance when this may occur. For Example, your tracking links may have been copied to a crawable web page. This happens all the time by site administrators and by META search engines (engines that feed off other search engines). If your tracking URLs keep showing up in the Search Engine Result pages (SERPS) by the major search engines you can remove them by adding a couple of lines in your robots.txt file.
Google, MSN, and Yahoo all respect the robots. Assuming that your tracking URL have “leadsource” in them. This would be the code to remove them.

The ability to have multiple ads in Yahoo Panama is one of the best features of the new Yahoo Panama, however Yahoo didn’t include conversion rate into their ad statistics. The fields Yahoo currently reports on are:
- Ad Name
- Editorial Status
- Display Rate (%)
- Quality Index
- Impressions
- CTR (%)
- Clicks
Although you can tell which message is more appealing to your audience, has a higher click through rate, you don’t know if that message is costing you more that another message with a lower click through rate. I would advise advertisers to test a similar message in google first, prior to deleting the ads with a lower CTR. Another work around would be to create a duplicate adgroup with all the same keywords and bids only changing the ads. This isn’t the most efficient method, but it will work.
I made this know to our Yahoo representative and hopefully Yahoo pushes ad conversion statistics into their next round of upgrades.

Google is updating their quality score algorithm for adwords by the end of this month. This is part of a series of updates that Google has been slowly implementing for the past two years. The update this time around will not add new elements to the ad ranking score, as much as change the weight that each component receives in the scoring, said Nicholas Fox, a senior business product manager at Google.
Google’s Quality score was previously based on keyword clickthrough rate (CTR), ad text relevance, the historical performance of the keyword. Now Google is introducing the user’s experience on the landing page as another factor of Quality score.
This means that Google is going to be placing more weight on landing page quality. Many advertisers are upset because they don’t understand how this will impact their advertising efforts. What this simply means is that you’ll have to invest more time in creating quality messages and landing pages. Your ad will have to be relevant to the search term and your landing page will have to promote a positive user response. A few tips to accomplish this are:
- Place keywords into the ad text
- Use the same keywords and messages you used on your Google ad on your landing page.
- Test messages to get a high Click through rate
You can check you quality score by enabling the quality score column for your adgroups. You can select this column by clicking ‘Customize Columns’ in one of your ad groups. The quality label will give you a general indicator of how well your keywords are performing. Remember, the better your quality score, the less you’ll Pay Per Click and the higher your ad will rank.

Importing a Google Campaign into the new Yahoo Panama is quick and easy, but unfortunately Yahoo doesn’t have any instructions on how to do this. So here’s a quick tutorial on how to do it.
- Download your entire Google account using the Adwords editor.
- Open up the file in Excel and delete all campaigns except the one(s) that you want to import.
- Remove all negative keywords from the campaign file.
- Make sure that you don’t have any duplicate keywords in any adgroup.
- Make sure that your bids are at least .10 cents.
- If you sorted the columns make sure that you re-sort the columns in the following order.
- Campaign, Adgroup, Ad, Keyword. You have to sort the columns this way, because Yahoo reads the file from top to bottom. If it doesn’t create the campaign first it won’t know where to put the keywords for that campaign.
- After you format your Google campaign file, you can convert it with the Yahoo tool.
- In your Yahoo Account Click on the Campaigns tab. Then click on the import link.
- Under the import campaigns header you’ll want to select convert third party campaigns.
- Now you’ll select your revised Adwords campaign file located on your local computer.
- Make sure you select a name for the campaign file them click convert.
- The conversion will take a few seconds.
- Once the conversion is complete download the converted file.
Now you’re going to import this converted file into Overture. To do this click on the import campaigns tab, find the file on your local computer and them click upload.
If you get errors during the import, download the errors file and address the errors. The errors are usually self explanatory.

Google Analytics not only tracks Adwords campaigns, but it also tracks 3rd party advertiser campaigns. This means that can track your Adwords,Yahoo, MSN, email and any other online campaign with Google Analytics. The best part of Google Analytics is that it’s free. Before you rule out Analytics, be sure to give it a fair try. Analytics provides an extensive number of different reports. Every thing from geographic segmentation, to browser type is tracked. One of my favorite features is the ability to map tracking variables. This simply means that if you already have your paid advertising links with unique tracking codes, that you can port this over to Analytics. For Example, it’s say that one of your tracking links is www.domain.com/productpage.asp?engine=adwords&keyword=cookies.
As you can determine from this tracking URL the traffic is coming from adwords. You can also determine that the traffic is originating from a search for “cookies”. Now all you have to do in your analytics code is to add two lines of code. In this case you would add these two lines of code. _uccn=”engine”; and _ucsr=”keyword”; Now when you login to Analytics you’ll be able to see all your different advertising channels. It’s that simple. For more information on how to set this up please refer to Google Analytics tracking campaign variables
